Another key to drinking pure juice made from raw foods is to stay away from store bought juices. Why? These juices are pasteurized, sanitized and butcherized to death and therefore not good for you. Sanitized may be OK as you do need to wash your foods thoroughly before Juicing. However the pasteurization is a heat process that kills the nutrients. Plus, who knows how many chemicals are added to keep their products on the shelf without spoiling – butcherized? Like energy drinks, store bought juices are best – left at the store!
WHY? The main reason we do not buy juice at the store is the process they must endure in order to keep from spoiling. In order to comply with government regulations the store bought juice must be pasteurized. Pasteurization requires a heat process in excess of 160 degrees. Enzymes are destroyed at 122 degrees Fahrenheit which reduces enzymes to sludge like material to then be digested. In essence this process is butchering your fresh nutrient packed foods to a shadow of their former selves. Sanitization is good if the process is done at mild temps, below 107 degrees.
Another question regarding store purchased products, juice included, is, what other materials are packaged with the juice? Often we will find sugar or other sweeteners or salt and other products we can do better without. One, perhaps over simplified, rule of thumb is this, if the label contains an unknown or unpronounceable word – don’t buy it.
Do you enjoy your “Florida Squeezed Orange Juice” for breakfast? Some of those oranges may be imported from countries that still use a pesticide called dichloro diphenyl trichloethane, better know as DDT. True, it may have been squeezed in Florida but the end result is not something you want, let alone served to your kids. Home juicing is much safer, more nutritious and better for your greater wellness. Plus, you’ll probably save money!
